IHI Model for Improvement
The Model for Improvement is a framework - designed to turn your thoughts into actions. This model can help you prevent and manage pressure ulcers, also known as bed sores.

Thinking about changing something is easy. Making the change and knowing it is for the better can be difficult. This model asks you a series of questions which guide you towards successful improvement actions.

The Plan Do Study Act cycle (PDSA cycle)

The Model for Improvement uses PDSA cycles. With PDSA you plan, test, develop and implement your own improvements. PDSA is a proven method used globally by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI).  It has delivered improvements in healthcare systems in Europe and the USA. Managers and clinicians choose PDSA because it is simple to use and effective.

PDSA offers an alternative to the 'trial and error' approach to improvement. Trial and error involves making a change and waiting for a reaction. With PDSA you study a change before and after testing it. Extensive study of a problem before a change, however, can lead to nothing being done. With PDSA, you will make small reliable and sustainable changes resulting in improvements you can measure.
